Panthers Take Seven Titles at Iowa Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's and women's track & field teams combined for seven event titles at the Iowa Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa on Friday evening. The Panthers swept the women's and men's titles in the 60m hurdles (Olimpia Nowak, Sebastian Barth) and the pole vault (Jenna Wexter, Corey Szamlewski).

Men's Highlights

Senior Tanner Hurt moved into fourth place on the UNI all-time list in the weight throw with a toss of 63-07.50 (19.39m) for second place. Hurt's throw was a personal-best effort by more than two feet and ranks him No. 38 in the nation this season.

Freshman Sebastian Barth won his fourth title this season in the 60m hurdles, running 8.03 seconds in the prelims and 8.13 seconds in the finals.

Panther freshman Corey Szamlewski won his first collegiate title in the pole vault, clearing 15-05.00 (4.70m).

Senior Jarred Herring clocked a season-best and Missouri Valley Conference-leading 6.82 seconds in the 60m dash for second place. Derek Kramer took fifth place in 6.95 seconds.

Senior Brady Fritz notched a second-place finish in the 800m at 1:54.00. Brendan Thompson took fourth at 3,000m in 9:03.22.

Senior Aaron Stockstell was third in the 400m dash with a time of 49.52, and freshman Derek Drew placed fourth in 50.40. Marshall Hill ran the 200m in 22.45 seconds for fourth place.

Justin Romero threw 56-08.50 (17.28m) to finish second in the shot put. Daniel Gooris had a near-season-best in the long jump, taking fourth place with a mark of 21-10.75 (6.67m).

Women's Highlights

Junior Scotti Schon shaved nearly six seconds off her previous personal-best time in the mile, winning the event in 5:02.96. Leah Blanchard recorded a personal-best of her own, finishing fifth in 5:12.37.

Jenna Wexter won the pole vault, clearing 12-05.50 (3.80m). Freshman Libby Torresani vaulted a season-best 11-05.75 (3.50m) for second place.

Freshman Victoria Jackson jumped 16-11.50 (5.17m) for a first-place finish in the long jump.

Senior Traci Harms won the weight throw with a mark of 60-07.75 (18.48m). Junior Kelsey Sukovaty earned a third-place finish with a throw of 58-11.25 (17.96m).

Olimpia Nowak took the title in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.56 seconds, and freshman Rachel Peth was second in 8.94 seconds.

Peth clocked the second-fastest 60m time of the season by a Panther, finishing in 7.96 seconds. Freshman Bree Rehder took fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of 26.62.

Molly Cashman placed second in the 800m, finishing in 2:17.25. Alex Wilson and Emily McCarthy took third and fourth, respectively.

Sukovaty and Harms placed second and third, respectively, in the shot put. Sukovaty threw 48-11.00 (14.91m) and Harms posted a toss of 47-04.50 (14.44m).

Emily Roberts claimed a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash, crossing the line in 59.63.

UNI will host the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships in the UNI-Dome on Feb. 25-26.
