Sophomore pitcher Jamie Fisher has been named to the 1st team All-Region NFCA squad. Fisher, in just her second season as a Panther, also received first team all conference as well as the MVC Pitcher of the Year honors. In her final game this season Jamie rewrote the record books at UNI setting a new career strikeout record in just her second year as a Panther; Malinda McClintock set the previous career mark of 415 from 2000-2004. With a first team all region selection Jamie is also nominated for All-American selections but will have to wait for the voting period next week.
Senior third basemen Whitney Plein also left her mark in her final game at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. With bases loaded and two outs in a close game, the senior from Burlington, Iowa made a spectacular play keeping the Salukis from extending their 1-0 lead. With the stellar defense she has provided the Panthers with all year as well as the impressive tournament plays; the Missouri Valley Conference has nominated Whitney for "Best Defensive Play" in the tournament. Plein and Fisher will both await the results from voters next week before hearing the results of their efforts.
