The University of Northern Iowa men’s golf team finished in 16th place Saturday at the Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz. The Panthers shot 302 over the final 18 holes to end the tournament at 37-over par.
Senior Tyler Johnson was the top individual performer for the Panthers, carding a 73 for the final round to finish in a tie for 17th place. Johnson shot 69-73-73--215 to finish at one-under par for the event.
Matt Sargent finished at nine-over par 225 competing as an individual. Kyle Bermel finished at 226 (+10). Freshman Yarri Bryn posted a 75 for the final round.
Wichita State won the team event over the University of Kansas in a playoff. Individual medalist honors went to Dustin Garza of Wichita State who shot a 14-under-par 202 for 54 holes.
UNI will return to the links at the Branson Creek Invitational in Branson, Mo., on Apr. 5-6.
