The University of Northern Iowa men’s golf team was able to complete one round at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill., before the tournament was suspended due to darkness. UNI stands in a tie for 12th place in the team standings after the first round. The Panthers posted a team total of 309, while overall leader Illinois State posted a 293.
Senior Kyle Bermel posted the low score for the Panthers with a three-over par 73. Bermel’s first round total put him in a tie for 9th place in the individual standings. Tyler Johnson posted a 76 and Troy Hoffman shot a 79 on the first day of action in Normal. Matt Sargent carded a 77 for the opening round competing as an individual.
Zach Wanken of Bradley was the only individual to shoot below par for the opening 18 holes. He posted a 69 to lead the individual race by one stroke.
Play will resume at Weibring Golf Club with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. Teams will complete the second round and then immediately begin the third and final round.
