Waterloo, Ia.- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team wrap up the second day of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships at Byrnes Park in Waterloo.
Starting off the day in doubles, the UNI team of Chelsea Moore and Krissy Lankelma fell to Anna Kirshenbaum and Analese Snyder of Creighton 8-4 in the semifinals of the Flight 1 doubles. They went on to face the team of Natasha James and Dora Kotsiou of Evansville 8-5 to win third place in the bracket.
In the Flight 2 doubles, Jessica Kunzelmann and Nina Pfahler were defeated in their semifinals match, falling to Lutfiana Budiharto and Carla Venticinque of Wichita State 8-4. They went on to play in the third place match of the bracket where they defeated Drake's Klavdija Rebol and Earlynn Lauer 8-2.
The team of Cassandra Dix and Stefannia Sampaio lost their semifinals match of the Flight 3 doubles. They were defeated by the team of Anita Lee and Ana Simons of Southern Illinois 8-5. They went on to win the third place match in the bracket, defeating Jennie Hartjes and Elizabeth Vermillion of Creighton 8-5.
In the singles, Dix competed in the semifinal match of the Flight 4 singles where she defeated Gisela Cairo Baza of Southern Illinois 6-1, 6-2. She is set to face Carla Venticinque of Wichita State in the finals tomorrow.
In the fifth place match of the Flight 1 singles, Pfahler was defeated by Klavdija Rebol of Drake 6-2, 6-2.
Lankelma fell in the fifth place match of the Flight 5 singles to Nell Boyd of Drake 6-3, 6-4.
Sampaio was defeated in her fifth place match in the Flight 6 singles, falling to Ariadna Cairo Baza of Southern Illinois 6-3, 6-1.
In the Flight 7 backdraw, Talia Jang-Stewart fell to Earlynn Lauer of Drake 6-4, 6-4.The last day of play will begin at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow at Byrnes Park in Waterloo
