The University of Northern Iowa women's volleyball team completed its
third straight perfect Missouri Valley Conference regular season with a
3-0 sweep at Southern Illinois on Saturday night in Carbondale, Ill.
UNI's three-game sweep included game scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-15.
UNI (30-1 overall, 18-0 MVC) were aided by 10 kills from Megan Lehman and 30 assists from Bre Payton. Four Panthers reached double figures in digs in Candice Burke (15), Amy Braun (12), Molly Turk (11) and Payton (11).
SIU (9-18 overall, 3-15 MVC) was led by Laura Thole's match-high 15 kills.
UNI will host the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament beginning Thursday in the McLeod Center. UNI will be the No. 1 seed and will begin play in the tournament on Friday.
NOTES: UNI has won 54 straight MVC matches ... UNI has defeated 58 straight MVC opponents (which includes wins in the last two MVC tournaments) ... UNI improved to 48-7 all-time vs. Southern Illinois ... UNI has won 39 straight matches vs. SIU ... that streak dates back to Sept. 24, 1993 - the last time SIU defeated the Panthers.
