University of Northern Iowa head men's basketball coach Ben Jacobson has
announced the addition of transfer Wes Washpun (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/C.R.
Washington HS) to the Panther basketball squad.
Washpun will redshirt the 2012-13 season and be eligible to compete for
the UNI Panthers in the 2013-14 season.
Washpun played this past year at the University of Tennessee, where he
saw action in 17 games and averaged 10.2 minutes per game for the Volunteers.
Washpun earned first-team Class 4A all-state honors from the Iowa
Newspaper Association after averaging 18.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.0
assists, 3.7 steals and 2.1 blocks as a senior in the 2010-11 season at
Cedar Rapids Washington High School. Washpun set the school record with
92 steals as a senior. Washpun led the Warriors to the quarterfinals of
the 4A state tournament as a senior, where he scored 23 points in his
final prep game. He also lettered one year in cross country. He was
active in his school's show and concert choirs.
Washpun played AAU ball with the Iowa Barnstormers program and was a
teammate of current UNI Panther Seth Tuttle on that squad.
He is the son of Troy and Angie Washpun.
