CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball non-conference schedule has been announced for the 2012-13 season. The Panthers will play five home games during the non-conference schedule in the McLeod Center.

The UNI Panthers will start their season with an exhibition against Upper Iowa University in the McLeod Center on Nov. 4.

The regular season opener is set for Nov. 10 against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Panthers have faced Wisconsin-Green Bay nine times with including a close loss against the Phoenix last year. Green Bay appeared in the NCAA tournament last season losing in the second round to Kentucky.

On Nov. 15, the Panthers play the Coyotes of the University of South Dakota in the McLeod Center. The Panthers are 4-4 all-time against South Dakota including last season where the Panthers won 53-43. South Dakota was a post-season contender last season, but lost to Colorado in the second round of the WNIT.

On Nov. 17, UNI will head to the Peace Garden State and take on North Dakota State. UNI is 2-1 all-time against the Bison including a 60-41 win last season.

Next the Panthers will head for the city of lights where they will play in the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev. Nov. 23-25. The Panthers will meet three teams who made it to the post-season during the 2011-12 season.

First for the Panthers in Las Vegas will be the Sun Devils of Arizona State on Nov. 23. The Panthers and Arizona State have only met one other time in program history in 1993. Arizona State was a WNIT participant last season, but was defeated in the first round.

The Panthers will then move on to the Gators of Florida on Nov. 24. This will be the first meeting between the Panthers and the Gators. Florida advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament last year and was eventually defeated by the NCAA Champions Baylor.

In their final game of the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout, the Panthers will meet the Wolfpack of North Carolina State on Nov. 25. This will also be the first meeting between the two teams. North Carolina State competed in the WNIT last season finishing their post-season run in the second round.

"There is no doubt this is our most challenging non-conference schedule we have ever had," head coach Tanya Warren said. "Nine of our opponents qualified for post-season play a year ago and five of those teams made it to the NCAA tournament. We are confident after these 12 games we will be battle tested for a competitive Missouri Valley Conference season."

UNI will head back to the state of Iowa to take on Big Ten foe and in-state rival Iowa on Dec. 1 in Iowa City after suffering a heart breaking loss in the final minute last season. Iowa advanced to the NCAA tournament last season, but lost in the first round to Pac-12 member California.

The Panthers will return home for a three game non-conference home stand beginning with a Dec. 4 face-off against Chicago State. The Panthers are 11-1 all-time against the Chicago State Cougars including an 88-54 win last year.

The Panthers will then take on the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State on Dec. 8. SDSU finished last season as the Summit League Champions and was an NCAA tournament participant. The Panthers are 3-3 all-time against the Jackrabbits with their last meeting resulting in a win for the Panthers in 2010.

Rounding out the home non-conference schedule will be the Cyclones of Iowa State on Dec. 17. The Panthers have met the Cyclones in the regular season for 17 straight seasons with the Panthers narrowly being defeated in a game two years ago. Iowa State has been a powerhouse in the Big 12 finishing last season as an NCAA participant.

On Dec. 21 and 29, UNI will be on the road to Minnesota and St. Louis. The Panthers last meeting against Minnesota was last season in the WBI Championship match. The Panthers are 3-1 all-time against St. Louis, but haven't met them in a match since 1994.
