A trio with ties to the University Northern Iowa department of athletics will be competing in The Reebok CrossFit Games in Carson, Calif., in July.
Assistant women's soccer coach Sonia Rodriguez and former women's track & field athletes Deborah Cordner-Carson and Sarah McCormick will vie for the title "The Fittest on Earth" on July 13-15.
The athletes are tested in overall strength and ability with other various workouts/challenges ranging from weightlifting to gymnastics.
McCormick, along with her husband, Arrmand, teamed up with Ian Wass, Jess Wass, Spencer Gann and Rodriguez to form the CrossFit Kilo squad. The CrossFit Kilo team qualified for the CrossFit Games in California after placing second in the North Central CrossFit regional held in Chicago on May 27-29.
