Egan Paces Panthers at SDSU Classic

University of Northern Iowa junior Brett Egan led the Panther cross country teams at the SDSU Classic in Brookings, S.D., on Saturday morning. Egan claimed a fourth-place finish in the men's 8k race, clocking a season-best time of 25:45.50.

Egan helped the Panther men to a third-place finish as a team with 102 points. Nebraska won the men's team title with 23 points and host South Dakota State took second with 40 points.

Senior Brady Fritz was the No. 2 Panther finisher, crossing the line in 26:35.40 for 18th place. Senior Brendan Thompson (26:39.10), senior Aaron Vosberg (26:51.40) and freshman Terry Nielsen (27:02.90) took 22nd, 27th and 31st place, respectively, for UNI. Fritz, Thompson and Nielsen all posted season-best performances.

On the women's side, senior Jill Lageschulte led the UNI women to a fourth-place team finish. Lageschulte placed 17th overall with a 5k time of 18:39.80. Junior Scotti Schon was the No. 2 Panther finisher, clocking in at 19:00.90. Leah Blanchard (19:15.20), Lindsey Wilkins (19:22.60) and Hayley Thomas (19:25.90) placed 28th, 30th and 31st to round out the Panthers' scoring.

Minnesota claimed the women's team title with 18 points. Nebraska took second with 46 points, South Dakota State was third with 100 points, and UNI was fourth with 130 points.

UNI will compete next at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill., on Oct. 14.
