UNI's Hartzell Named to NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Rules Committee
University of Northern Iowa Director of Athletics Rick Hartzell has been named to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Rules Committee. Hartzell will serve a four-year term on the committee. The committee consists of 12 members and their general duties consist of comparing ideas and gauging opinions on rules changes with colleagues in conference and region. The committee stays in touch throughout the season with rules issues. To serve on the committee it is advisable for the individual to have played, coached and/or officiated the sport for multiple years, preferably on the collegiate level, or to have a serious interest in and working knowledge of the playing rules of the game. Members strive to exhibit exemplary decorum during games attended, whether as a participant or observer. Hartzell is in his eighth year as the Director of Athletics at UNI. A past president of the Gateway Football Conference athletic directors, he is currently vice-president of the Missouri Valley Conference administrators. He also serves as chair of the MVC sportsmanship committee, as well as serving as a member of the officiating committee and the centennial celebration committee. He recently received the All-American Football Foundation's General Robert Neyland Outstanding Athletic Director Award. Note: This is NOT the committee that selects the Division I Championship bracket. |
