Athletics Director Search Committee Announced
Feb. 26, 2008 Cedar Falls, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa has begun its search for a new director of athletics. A committee of 12 has been selected. The goal is to name a new athletic director by May 1. Joel Haack, dean of the UNI College of Natural Sciences, is chairing the committee, which includes: Dennis Anderson, storekeeper, equipment room, Intercollegiate Athletics
Joyce Barbatti, community representative and Panther Scholarship Club President
Jonathan Cox, coordinator, UNI Minority & Student Diversity Programs within the UNI College of Business
Bart Doudna, Northern Iowa Student Government representative and Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Council member
Bob Justis, community representative; president and CEO, Greater Cedar Valley Chamber of Commerce
Cassie Luze, director of development, UNI College of Natural Sciences and UNI College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
Mick Mack, UNI associate professor of physical education
James Mudd, Jr., community representative; president and CEO, The Mudd Group
Jackie Norton, student athlete and Student Athlete Advisory Committee member
Bobbi Petersen, head coach, UNI Women's Volleyball
Anne Woodrick, faculty NCAA representative and professor of anthropology
"This is a very strong and representative committee led by a veteran senior administrator," said Tom Schellhardt, vice president for administration and finance. "The focus will be on selecting a person who'll continue to emphasize the academic success of our student athletes. We also want someone who has successfully managed a large, diverse organization, and has the skills to promote our athletic programs and raise awareness and financial support among our alumni and friends." The committee plans to begin advertising for the position during the week of Feb. 25. The committee plans to select finalists for interviews in late March and conduct on-campus interviews in early to mid April. UNI's former Director of Athletics, Rick Hartzell, resigned in January. The interim director is Mark Farley, UNI head football coach. |
