Former UNI Athletic Trainer Terry Noonan Receives Honor
May 10, 2006 Former University of Northern Iowa head athletic trainer Terry Noonan will be inducted into the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society Hall of Honor this summer. Even though Noonan is no longer an athletic trainer in the state, Iowa is where his roots are and where he spent a large portion of his professional career. He continues to serve athletic trainers in the state by his position of NATA District 5 Director and member of the NATA Board of Directors. Terry is presently the Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer at Oklahoma State University. A graduate of Loras College and Eastern Kentucky University, Noonan's first athletic trainer job was at Waterloo Columbus High School. In 1983 he became the Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Northern Iowa and from 1985 to 1999 he held the position Head Athletic Trainer at UNI. While at Northern Iowa he held several positions in the IATS and the MAATA. He served as President of IATS and Newsletter Editor and President of the MAATA. At Oklahoma State he is serving as District Director of MAATA. At OSU in 2002, his staff was named Big 12 Athletic Training Staff of the Year. The Hall of Honor was established to acknowledge members' professional success, contributions to athletic training, positive influence on the Society, and high degree of character and integrity. Induction into the Hall of Honor is the highest distinction bestowed by the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society. The Hall of Honor banquet will be held Friday, June 2nd at the Quality Inn in Ames, Iowa.
