Panther Sports Marketing Department Receive Five Awards at NACMA
June 21, 2006 New Orleans, LA - The University of Northern Iowa Panther Sports Marketing Department received five awards from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) in the Group II awards ceremony. The winners were presented with their honors during NACMA's 15th Annual Convention, this week in New Orleans. Panther Sports Marketing recorded one gold placing in the Television Commercial category and four second place plaques were given for Online Promotion, Radio Commercial, Season Ticket Campaign and Student Promotion categories. The Television Commercial top ranking and Radio Commercial silver award were given for the football and men's basketball season ticket commercials from this past year. The Season Ticket Campaign silver award was attained for the printed mailing for fall and winter sports in 2005-06. The items in the these three categories were written and produced by ME & V of Cedar Falls, Iowa. The silver award for the The Online Promotion was given for the for the promotion that quadrupled the membership for the UNIPanther.com Online newsletter last fall. The Student Promotion category honor was given for the continued growth and activation of the Panther Posse/ Mac's Maniacs student fan groups on campus. This past year student involvement in this group reached nearly 1800 University of Northern Iowa students. The 2005-06 Panther Sports Marketing Department includes Assistant Athletic Director Leon Costello, Assistant Director Nate Clayberg and student assistants Angela Brodersen, Tim Fink, Sarah Harter, Jillian McLaughlin, April Pudenz, Travis Salter, Katy West and Courtney Winninger. Some of the areas that the Panther Sports Marketing area coordinates and manages for Panther Athletics are corporate sponsorship, ticket promotion, UNIPanther.com, UNI Sports Network, game-day atmosphere and promotion and the student fan group. Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 16 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. The following panel of distinguished corporate marketing personnel judged the record-setting 1,106 entries. Kim Babiak, director of marketing, Houston Texans Robyn Calhoun, regional marketing manager, Coca-Cola Keith Cohn, partner/principal, C&M Marketing and Communications Lisa Moscarelli, partner, C&M Marketing and Communications Chris Plonsky, director of women's athletics and director of men and women's external services, University of Texas John Schwartz, director of marketing, Houston Chronicle David Tagliarino, director of marketing, SMG Houston NACMA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics marketing administrators. NACMA is administered by NACDA, now in its 41st year, is the professional and educational association for more than 6,100 college athletics administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. More than 2,000 athletics administrators annually attend the NACDA Convention.
