Nancy Justis is in her 26th season directing UNI's Athletics Media Relations Office and was elevated to Assistant Athletics Director in 2004. She is in her 29th year overall in the athletics department. From 1976 until October of 1979, she served as the school's first fulltime assistant sports information director before being named director. She will retire from the athletics department in January. A native of Cedar Rapids, IA, Justis came to UNI in 1974 as an assistant editor in the Office of Public Relations, then moved into sports information fulltime in 1976. Justis earned her bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Iowa in 1973. After graduation, she was a reporter for the Fort Collins (CO) Coloradoan before coming to UNI. She is a founding member of the former Northeast Iowa Chapter of Women in Communications, Inc. She also is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She served as chair of CoSIDA's Career Enhancement Committee for several years and has received various awards for her publications from that organization. Her 2002 football media guide, for example, placed second in the nation in the 1-AA category. Justis was an Assistant Venue Press Chief for Archery and the Modern Pentathlon at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics and for Yachting at the 1987 Pan American Games hosted by Indianapolis. Her husband, Bob, is the public address announcer for Panther football and men's basketball games. The couple has one daughter, Nicole, 20, a junior at UNI. |
