Justin Sell is in his 10th year in the University of Northern Iowa department of athletics. Sell currently serves as a Senior Associate Athletic Director for the Panthers, in which his oversight includes the Athletic Business Office/Budget, Facilities, Human Resources and Summer Camps. Sell has played a vital role in community engagement for UNI athletics. Sell has been responsible for community relations in the areas of economic development, tourism and the Chamber of Commerce. As president and co-founder of the Cedar Valley Sports and Entertainment Commission, he has designed, implemented and managed a fundraising plan that raised more than $260,000 to bid and attract statewide, regional and national level events to the local communities. The National Wrestling Coaches Association's National Duals came to the UNI-Dome as a result of Sell's work with the commission. The 2008 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals was named Event of the Year by the Cedar Valley Tourism Awards handed out last May. UNI has served as the host for the National Duals since 2006 and has bettered its attendance mark in each of the first years the event has been held in the UNI-Dome. The NWCA announced an extension of the National Duals being hosted by UNI through 2011. Sell came to UNI in May 1999 as the Operations Manager for Athletic Facilities. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Operations in 2000. While serving his role in facilities, he was able to add concerts such as Nelly, Kenny Chesney/Sara Evans, Smashmouth, Rascal Flatts, Fleetwood Mac, Alan Jackson/Martina McBride and Black Eyed Peas. He was promoted again to Associate Athletic Director in 2002, where he began sport management of baseball, softball, wrestling, track and field, cross country, golf, swimming, tennis and soccer. In that role he had direct oversight of 33 full-time employees and 80 part-time employees Prior to his time at UNI, he was Director of Ticket Operations and Assistant Facility Director and Intramural Director from 1995-99 at Villanova University. He was responsible for facility capital projects, including the construction of a new press box, varsity weight room, outdoor grass athletic fields, and conducting research for a new baseball complex. Before arriving at Villanova, he worked at Syracuse University and Ohio State. Sell is a 1991 graduate of Bowling Green State University, earning a degree in Sport Management. He received his master's in Sport Administration in 1992 from Ohio State, where he worked as a graduate assistant for facilities, summer camps and compliance. He and his wife, Jennie, have four children - Abbie, Zach, Josh and Eric. |
