The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team will meet the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on ESPN2 on Nov. 17 as a part of ESPN's 24-hour College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. The game will tip at 7 a.m. (CT) in the McLeod Center.
2015 College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon Schedule
It marks the second straight season the two squads will meet in the College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. The Panthers scored a 79-77 overtime win last season in Nacogdoches, Texas, in a game that saw SFA's 34-game home-court win streak snapped.
UNI will enter the 2015-16 season riding an 18-game home-court win streak – the nation's 12th-longest active home-court win streak.
The Nov. 17 matchup will mark the fourth time the two schools have met on the hardwood. UNI has won each of the three previous contests (79-77 on Nov. 17, 2014; 120-96 on Jan. 6, 1990; 80-71 on Jan. 7, 1989).
The Lumberjacks are coming off third third-straight regular season Southland Conference title and back-to-back SLC tournament titles and NCAA appearances. SFA posted a 29-5 record last season. SFA is one of 10 teams to record at least 25 wins in each of the last three years.
UNI completed a 31-4 mark in the 2014-15 season, which saw the Panthers ranked No. 14 in the final USA Today/Coaches Poll. UNI returns nine letterwinners and two starters for the 2015-16 season. UNI is one of 14 schools to have won 30 or more games twice in the last six seasons, joining Duke (4 times), Kansas (4), Kentucky (3), Louisville (3), Syracuse (3), Wichita State (3), BYU (2), Gonzaga (2), Murray State (2), Ohio State (2), San Diego State (2), Virginia (2) and Wisconsin (2). UNI has made seven trips to the NCAA Tournament, including last season, which saw the Panthers reach the third round following a 71-54 win over Wyoming. UNI's six trips to the NCAA Tournament (since 2004) are the most in the Missouri Valley Conference. UNI's streak of 12 straight upper-half finishes in the MVC is the league's longest active streak.
