The UNI Spirit Squads have done it again. For the third year in a row T.C. (The Cat) and the UNI Dance Team will be traveling to Orlando, Fla., in January to compete in the Universal Cheer Association/Universal Dance Association (UCA/UDA) National Championships.

The UNI Dance Team has qualified fourth in its class, qualifying them with a partially paid bid to the event. They will be competing against 26 other schools' dance teams in search of a national championship. T.C., the Panther mascot, has qualified fifth in the open division. Only the top five mascots are invited to compete in the open division.

In 2008, the UNI Dance Team finished with eighth, and T.C. ended the competition in eighth place.

The UNI Dance Team is made up of 13 members and is student-run. Four members of the squad make up the choreography committee and act as the student coaches. The dance team performs at all home men's and women's basketball games as well as all home football games. This marks the eighth time since 1999 that the UNI dancers have qualified for the UDA's national championships.  This will be T.C.'s fifth appearance at the UCA's college mascot national championship.

If you are interested in supporting the dance team or T.C., for their trip to nationals, please contact UNI Sports Marketing at 319-273-7044.
