Cedar Falls - The UNI track and field teams competed in the UNI-Dome for the third straight weekend today, hosting the UNI classic. Panther sophomore Rachel Jansen (Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) broke a UNI school record in the shot put, reaching a provisionally-qualifying mark of 54-1 ¾. She had previously held the record at 51-0 1/4 set just last weekend at the UNI Invitational. The record also earned her second place in the event.

Also for the Panther women, junior Morgen Edwards (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) placed third in the weight throw, reaching 56-11 ½. Sophomore Stacy Butt (DeWitt, Iowa/Northeast Goose Lake) was the runner-up in the long jump with an 18-3 ¼ distance. In the high jump, sophomore Crystal Hanson (Roland, Iowa/Roland-Story) placed third with her 5-4 ¼ height. Junior Yana Kruglikova (Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan/Ust-Kamenogorsk) was the champion of the triple jump with her 28-11 ½ distance.

In running events for the UNI women, junior Kara Yahn (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.02. Close in pursuit with a third-place finish was sophomore teammate Cali Lyons (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead), finishing in 9.16. In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Meredith Kosmacek (Perisa, Iowa/Tri-Center Neola) finished third with her 7.82 time, and she also placed first in the 200 meters with a time of 25.22. Two Panther freshmen claimed first and second place in the mile run, as Whitney Johnson (Adel, Iowa/ADM) finished in 5:10.94, and Sarah Johnston (Packwood, Iowa/Pekin) clocked in at 5:11.78. Sophomore Amy Bagge (Monticello, Iowa/Monticello) was the third-place finisher in the 800 meters with her 2:17.66 time. In the 3000 meters, it was freshman Caedryn Schrunk (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) who lead the pack, placing first in 10:29.42.

 

 

On the men's side for UNI, junior Nathan White (Des Moines, Iowa/Southeast Polk) placed fourth in the mile (4:17.25) and was the runner-up in the 800 meters (1:56.75). Senior Alex May (Dubuque, Iowa/Senior) was the third-place finisher in the 3000, clocking in at 8:54.35. The Panther men's 4x400 meter relay team `A' placed first with a time of 3:54.73.

UNI travels to Ames, Iowa next weekend for the Iowa State Classic, beginning Friday (Feb. 10) and concluding Saturday (Feb. 11).
