Des Moines, Iowa -

With a win in the men's distance medley relay, the Panthers combined for five 2007 Drake Relays Championships over the course of the four-day meet.  This is the most UNI has ever clinched in one year. The distance medley relay of senior Dylan Davis, sophomore Ryan Grenko, senior Kyle Smith and freshman Dorian Ulrey won the event in 9:42.69, shattering the old UNI school record of 9:47.32 set in 2002.

This was the second 2007 Drake Relays title for Davis (Adel, Iowa/ADM), Ulrey (Port Byran, Ill./Riverdale) and Smith (Toronto, Canada/Birchmount Park), who were members of the winning 4x800m relay last night.

"Our coaching staff is real proud of how our athletes competed this weekend," said Chris Bucknam, Director of Running Programs. "They fought and battled hard throughout the entire meet, from the lousy weather during the multi-events to competing against the top competitors in the nation. The distance medley relay was a great race. I hope it shows that UNI has arrived as a top team - we battled hard against some of the very best teams in the nation. We are very pleased."

UNI and Baylor gave the crowd a photo finish in the sprint medley relay as the Panthers finished only 1/10th of a second behind the Bears. Baylor led throughout the entire race; however, Panther anchor sophomore all-American Tyler Mulder (Orange City, Iowa/Unity Christian) narrowed the gap between the two teams by a stride down the stretch. The Panthers' team, also consisting of freshman Wojciech Jurkowski (Poznan, Poland), senior Cody Eichmeier (Ackley, Iowa/AGWSR), and sophomore Terrence Reid (Davenport, Iowa/Central) finished in 3:17.24.

The Panther women's shuttle hurdle relay placed fifth in 58.92.  The team consisted of junior Cali Lyons (Dubuque, Iowa/Hemstead), sophomore Alyssa Fischer (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy), freshman Dani Stipe (Carroll, Iowa/Kuemper) and senior Kara Yahn (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton).

Junior Rachel Jansen (Orange City, Iowa/MOC Floyd Valley) took second in the shot put, throwing 54-feet, ½ inch.

Freshman Ehi Oamen (Hinton, Iowa/Hinton) tied for fifth place in the high jump with a leap of 6-8.75.  Sophomore Tim Fulton (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) placed 11th in the 800m in a personal-best time of 1:51.19.

Sophomore Greg Offerman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) finished 19th in the 400m hurdles in a season-best time of 52.67 and freshman Cory Goos (West Liberty, Iowa/West Liberty) placed 23rd in 53.51.

The Panther men's 4x400m relay team, composed of senior Mark Harris (Toronto, Canada/Birchmount Park), sophomore Terrence Reid (Davenport, Iowa/Central), Goos and Grenko, took sixth in 3:08.33.

UNI next competes at the Wisconsin Relays, May 4-5.
