Five Panthers Head to USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Five student-athletes from the University of Northern Iowa will make the trip to Eugene, Ore. this week to take part in the 2009 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Championships will run June 25-28 at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. Seniors Tyler Mulder (800 meters), Mat Clark (decathlon) and Terrance Reid (400 meters) along with juniors Ehi Oamen (high jump) and Cory Goos (400-meter hurdles) will represent the Panthers.
Mulder, an eight-time All-American, set a personal best and UNI school record 800 meter time of 1:46.80 two weeks ago at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to finish in third place. Mulder also took third place at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships in addition to winning the 800 meter title at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Reid, also an eight-time All-American, finished 13th overall in the 400 meter dash at the 2009 NCAA Championships, recording a season-low time of 46.08. Reid holds a personal-best 400 meter time of 45.79.
Clark, a three-time All-American in the multi-events, recorded his highest NCAA Championships finish, placing ninth with 7,608 points. The senior holds a career-best point total of 7,785 points.
Goos, a three-time All-American, recorded a career-best 400-meter hurdle time of 50.59 during the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Oamen, a two-time All-American, holds a personal-best outdoor high jump of 7-02 ½. The junior took third at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships and sixth at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The USA Championships are comprised of the United State’s best track and field athletes as they vie for the opportunity to represent Team USA this August at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Berlin, Germany. The top three finishes in event will earn the honor to represent Team USA.
