UNI Women's Cross Country Finishes 8th at Roy Griak InvitationalSept. 27, 2008
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Northern Iowa women’s cross country team secured a top ten team finish at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota Saturday. The Panther women’s team finished eighth out of the 23-team field. The UNI men’s team finished 23rd overall in the 25-team field.
Freshman Carly Olsen was the top performer for the Panther women, finishing 25th overall with a time of 22:06 in the women’s 6K race. Senior Caedryn Schrunk followed closely behind, clocking in at 22:27 for 39th place overall. Danielle Nowasell finished third for the Panthers, finishing with a time of 22:53 for 55th place.
Andrea Wacker clocked in with a time of 23:04 for 65th place while Jill Lageschulte and Jessa Schweitzer finished in 23:22 and 23:58 respectively.
On the men’s side, Senior Mike Clancy was the top finisher for the Panthers, finishing with a time of 26:51 for 127th place. Freshman Alex Mark crossed the finish line next for the Panthers, coming in at 27:30 for 142nd place. Junior Mike Stout finished third for UNI in a time of 27:38, followed closely behind by sophomore Corbin Miller. Miller clocked in at 27:50. Jason Mitchell was next to cross the finish for the Panthers, finishing 159th overall with a time of 28:14.
Freshmen Mike Cooper and Andrew Perkins finished 164th and 168th with times of 28:41 and 29:04 respectively.
UNI men’s and women’s cross country will return to action Oct. 11 at the Lamb-Kohawk Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
