CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- University of Northern Iowa senior Traci Hawley finished second at the 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Cross Country Championships Saturday, while sophomore Dorian Ulrey was fifth to lead the Panther men.

Hawley's run, her second top-three finish at the Valley Championships in as many seasons, clocked in at 17:20.40 to eclipse the Panthers' previous school 5-kilometer record by nearly seven seconds.  The race, held at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls, capped a senior season that saw Hawley re-write the Panther women's record books. She also set school records in the 4K and 6K this season.

It was Hawley's second-consecutive top-three finish at the MVC Championships, as she claimed third at the Valley meet in 2006.

Wichita State's Kellyn Johnson captured the women's individual title in 16:59.53, helping the Shockers to win the women's title for the third consecutive year.

Junior Caedryn Shrunk placed eighth at the Valley Championships for the second consecutive season, clocking in with a time of 17:43.51, to help the Panthers secure third place in the team standings.

UNI sophomore Andrea Wacker clocked in at 18:08.12, finishing 17th, while sophomore Samantha Nygren was 29th in 18:42.21 and freshman Regina Reinig finished 37th with a time of 18:59.33.

Other Panther runners included Whitney Johnson (19:10.99) and Amanda Huling (19:21.17).

On the men's side, Ulrey clocked in with a career-best time of 24:43:63 to score his second top-five finish at the MVC Championships in as many attempts.

Southern Illinois swept the top three spots on its way to winning the men's title with 35 points.  SIU's Jeff Schirmer beat out teammate and reigning MVC champion Mohamed Mohamed to capture the individual title, while Kevin Doran came in third.

UNI seniors Chris Lawson and Mike Clancy both ran career-best races for the Panthers, finishing 23rd and 32nd. Lawson clocked in at 25.29.83, while Clancy finished in 25.53.81. Teammate Andy Schon finished 47th with a time of 26:42.55.

Freshman runners Kevin Morgan (27:11.54) and Corbin Miller (27:50.02) finished 56th and 63rd.
