Panther Women Place Fourth, Men Seventh In MVC Championships

Cedar Falls - The UNI men's and women's cross country teams competed in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships this morning, hosted by the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind. UNI freshman. Caedryn Schrunk (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) helped lead the Panther women to a fourth-place finish, while sophomore Mike Clancy (Iowa City, Iowa/West) was the leader on the men's side, helping to earn the Panthers a seventh-place finish. Wichita State competed for the team title on the women's side, and Indiana State took the men's team title. Schrunk's 17:34.27 time in the 5K earned her a 10th-place finish and all-Missouri Valley Conference honors for the Panther women. Freshman Moa Westman (Norrtalje, Sweden/Sollentuna) was next to cross the finish line for UNI, placing 14th with a 17:46.47 time. Sophomore Traci Hawley (Ames, Iowa/Ames) finished the race in 17:49.35, earning 16th place. Sarah Johnston (Packwood, Iowa/Pekin) placed 27th for the Panthers in a time of 18:16.36. Senior Randi Burns (Strawberry Point, Iowa/Starmont), freshman Whitney Johnson (Adel, Iowa/ADM) and sophomore Staci Ruebel (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) claimed the 33rd, 34th and 35th place slots for the Panthers with times of 18:32.17, 18:34.64 and 18:36.53.
Clancy's time of 25:37.86 in the 8K earned him a 29th-place finish, while senior teammate Alex May (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) finished just behind in 30th place with a 25:38.89 time. Junior Nathan White (Des Moines, Iowa/Southeast Polk) finished 32nd for the Panthers (25:42.21), and freshman Ryan Dolan (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert) placed 38th, crossing the line at 25:49.93. Next up, the Panther pacers head to Iowa City, Iowa for the NCAA Midwest Regionals Nov.12. |
