Women Finish 5th, Men 7th at MVC Cross Country ChampionshipsNov. 1, 2008
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Northern Iowa women’s cross country team took fifth place and the men’s team took seventh place at the Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Missouri State Saturday afternoon.
Caedryn Schrunk was the top finisher for the Panther women, taking fifth place and finishing the 5k race in 17:55.86. Danielle Nowasell followed closely behind, taking sixth place with a time of 17:57.76. Schrunk earned her fourth All-Conference honor, while Nowasell earned her first all-conference nod.
Carly Olsen finished in 23rd place, clocking in at 18:53.97. Andrea Wacker was next to cross the finish line for the Panther women, finishing in 19:12.82. Jill Lageschulte and Jessa Schweitzer finished in 36th and 51st place respectively. Lageschulte clocked in at 19:27.95 and Schweitzer finished in 19:57.86.
On the men’s side, Mike Clancy was the top runner for the Panthers, finishing in 29th place overall with a time of 26:14.25 in the men’s 8k race. Jason Mitchell finished second for the Panthers and 47th overall with a time of 27:10.71. Mike Stout finished closely behind, taking 49th place with a time of 27:15.76. Alex Mark finished third for the Panthers, clocking in at 27:31.58.
Corbin Miller and Mike Cooper finished 53rd and 54th respectively, finishing in 27:40.96 and 25:47.45.
Andrew Perkins clocked in at 27:53.10 for 57th place while Brady Fritz finished in 28:08.64 and 59th place.
UNI will now head to the NCAA Regionals on Nov. 15th in Stillwater, Okla.
