ST. LOUISThe University of Northern Iowa’s Caedryn Schrunk was named Missouri Valley Conference Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week the league announced Tuesday. Schrunk took top honors at the Lamb-Kohawk Invitational, finishing the 6k in a time of 21:54, a season-best performance.

Schrunk, the lone senior for the Panther women, has shown leadership through example this season. Schrunk has taken two first place finishes for the Panthers this season, finishing first at the Hawkeye Invitational (Sept. 12) and taking the top spot at the Lamb-Kohawk Invitational last weekend. Schrunk has been the top finisher for the Panthers in three of their four meets this season.

The UNI women held their No. 14 ranking in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest regional poll this week. Four other Missouri Valley Conference schools dot the rankings, including Missouri State (8), Wichita State (10), Southern Illinois (13) and Illinois State (15).

The Panthers travel to the Bradley Classic this Friday in Peoria, Ill. The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m. and the men’s race at 5 p.m.
