Baseball Tops Miami, 13-10

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The University of Northern Iowa baseball team pounded out 20 hits and scored seven runs in the seventh inning on the way to a 13-10 win over Miami (Ohio) Thursday afternoon.
Levi Ferguson was 4-of-5 from the plate with two RBIs, and Cory Ege and Jason Summers each notched three hits for UNI (7-6). Zach Zirbel pitched three hitless innings in relief to earn the win. Shuhei Fujiya earned his fourth save in the game.
Miami (5-5) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. In the top of the third, Brett Douglas singled and moved to second when Travis Bennett drew a walk. Jason Summers doubled down the left field line to score Douglas and move Bennett to third. Jeff Taliaferro hit a sacrifice fly into center to score Bennett and tie the game, 2-2.
Miami regained the lead, 4-2, with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Summers scored on a single by James Dinizo in the top of the fifth, and Ferguson tied the game at 4-4 when he led off the top of the sixth with a solo home run.
Bennett led off the top of the seventh with a single, and he stole second and scored on a single by Summers. Dinizo was hit by a pitch, and Summers and Dinizo moved to second and third on a wild pitch. Cory Ege singled to score both runners, putting UNI in front, 7-4. Later in the inning, Douglas hit a two-out, bases-loaded single to score Ege and Deric Manrique. Bennett singled to score Grant Grgurich, and Douglas came around to score on a Miami error, capping a seven-run inning by the Panthers that gave UNI an 11-4 lead.
In the top of the ninth, Douglas scored on a balk and Taliaferro singled to score Bennett and give the Panthers a 13-4 advantage.
The RedHawks managed to scratch six runs across in the bottom of the ninth, but Fujiya was able to close the door and secure the 13-10 win for UNI.
