Box Score

Waterloo, Iowa -

After being held to one run on five hits in game one, Evansville's offense exploded for seven runs on 11 hits to take the game two win from the University of Northern Iowa baseball team. UNI managed four hits off the Purple Aces in the 7-0 and ended its 13-game home stand with a doubleheader split and a 5-8 record.

UNI began game two much the same as it kicked off the opener. Two errors and a pair of second-inning hits led to two UE runs and a 2-0 Panther deficit after the second frame. The Aces added a third run in the top of the third to extend its lead to three runs.

UNI put together its first real scoring threat in the last of the sixth when two hit batsmen and a Nate Trumm (Worthington, Iowa/Dyersville-Beckman) single loaded the bases for Curt Bradley (Colombia, MO/Rock Bridge). Bradley sliced a frozen rope to left field that was caught by Evansville's left fielder, who had been shifted to shallow left field.

The Aces responded to UNI's threat with two home runs, a two-run blast and a solo shot, in the top of the seventh. UE didn't let up in the eighth, plating a run on a sac-fly and extending its advantage to 7-0 through eight innings of play.

Evansville closer Scott Souther struck out three UNI batters in the ninth to end the game and ensure the 7-0 victory for the Purple Aces.

Starter Jake Hansen (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Lewis Central) endured a rocky five-plus inning start. The senior surrendered three runs on seven hits while striking out three in the losing effort. The loss puts Hansen's record at 1-2 on the season.

At the dish, four different Panthers slapped four hits, including a Brett Douglas (St. Charles, Iowa/I-35) double in the sixth inning.

The Panthers move to 17-19 on the season 3-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Evansville moves to 21-17 for the year, 6-6 in the conference.

UNI travels to Minnesota Wednesday and then Terre Haute, Indiana for a three-game set with Indiana State starting Friday at 6:30 p.m.
