Final Stats

EVANSVILLE, IN -

The University of Northern Iowa baseball team dropped the series finale 6-2 at Evansville Sunday afternoon. The Panthers were unable to notch a hit in the final four innings of play. Brett Featherston was 2-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

Three of the Aces' runs came off the bat of Pat Tumilty, who notched three RBIs on two home runs.

Mark Murray (3-1) earned the win for Evansville (25-13, 7-5). Aaron Jenkins (1-3) took the loss for UNI (13-19, 3-9), giving up six runs, five earned, on five hits, two walks and a hit batsman in 5.0 innings.

Deric Manrique reached on an error to lead off the game. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Eric Hoffmann and to third on a ground out from Brandon Douglas. Brett Featherston hit a two-out single to right to score Manrique, putting UNI in front, 1-0.

Evansville was able to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning when Jim Viscomi led off the inning with a walk and eventually came around on a ground out by Casey Wahl.

Pat Tumilty put the Aces in the lead with a solo home run to right to lead off the bottom of the second.

Featherston hit a one-out single to right in the top of the fourth. He advanced to third when Dane Embury singled to right. A wild pitch from Mark Murray scored Featherston and tied the game at 2-2. Embury was thrown out as he tried to advance to third on the play, and UNI was unable to add any more in the inning.

In the bottom half of the frame, Tumilty hit a two-run home run to put the Aces in front 4-2. Evansville added two more in the bottom of the fifth on two singles and a walk to take a 6-2 lead, which would become the final score.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday when they play in-state foe Iowa at 6:30 p.m.
