The Panthers outhit the Shockers 11-8, but left five runners stranded until the seventh inning when the runs started to come across for UNI. Senior Nate Trumm ( The Panthers turned two double plays and committed no errors in the contest which solidified an outstanding defensive effort by Jevne. Jevne improved to 6-5 on the season while WSU starter Aaron Shafer fell to 9-2. WSU scored one run in the first inning off two lead-off hits and then was held scoreless for the remainder of the game. UNI cut its losses in the inning, turning a 3-6-3 double play which allowed one run to score but squelched two Shocker runners. The Panthers drew up another double play in the fourth as shortstop Brandon Douglas ( Trumm singled to center field in the seventh and advanced to third on an overthrown pick-off attempt by Shafer. Trumm then scored the tying run on Deric Manrique fielder's choice ball up the middle. The catcher dropped a throw from the pitcher as Trumm was sliding into home plate. Brett Douglas singled up the middle and then pinch hitter Clayton Daniels ( The Panthers scored yet again in the ninth as Frieske reached first on an error by shortstop Noah Krol and he advanced home later in the inning on an overthrow by the catcher.
