OMAHA, Neb. -- University of Northern Iowa junior shortstop Brandon Douglas was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-America second team, the ABCA announced Monday.

Douglas earns the honor after a season where he hit .396 with a team-high 60 RBIs. He set a UNI record for doubles in a season with 25, and he finished the year with a career-high 10 home runs and a team-high .676 slugging percentage. He was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, and he has been selected the MVC first-team shortstop all three seasons that he has played for UNI.

Douglas was selected by Detroit in the 11th round of the MLB first-year player draft.

The ABCA All-America Teams are collegiate baseball's oldest selections, dating to 1949.  All Division I coaches have the opportunity to nominate and vote on these selections, which are initially compiled into eight All-Region teams.  These teams are then finalized as the first, second and third All-America teams by the ABCA's NCAA Division I All-America and Coach of the Year Committee, chaired by Dean Ehehalt of Monmouth University (NJ).  This year, the committee selected 60 players as 2008 ABCA All-Americans.
