Creighton-UNI Men's Basketball Quotes

  • UNI Head Coach Ben Jacobson
"That's not the way to start ... we are a better basketball team than that. The start was my fault, it's not the player's fault that we were down 20-4. After that point our guys played the way they were capable of playing. I had guys in the wrong places offensively. We didn't get enough good looks at the basket.
  • "Funk is a good player and he hit two shots that were the difference. One was out of the corner and the other one was off two screens. The last one was a tough shot and there are not many guys around that can hit that shot. It's a tough shot and Jared (Josten) defended it as good as you can. It's just a tough shot and he hit it. It kept us just out of reach."

  • UNI Center Eric Coleman
"The shots haven't been going our way this week. We are playing hard and defending. It's just the shots aren't going our way."
  • "We weren't close to good basketball early on and the shots weren't falling. But we kept our heads up and kept fighting."

"That's why (Funk) is one of the best players in the league. He hit shots and good players do that."

"We are six games in. We've lost two games. We are not out of this race."

  • UNI Guard Brooks McKowen
"We just can't afford to get down that far. They knocked down some really big shots in the second half. The credit goes to Creighton. After their run we held them to eight points the rest of the half. We knew we were going to get stops and we did what we had to do on the defensive end of the floor. But Creighton kept fighting and they didn't let go of the lead. As I said, Creighton deserves the credit."
  • Creighton Head Coach Dana Altman
"It was a great start and it's always good to do that on the road. You are going to depend on your seniors and Funk and Tolliver did that. We knew Stout and Coleman would be tough matchups and McKowen handles the ball well. We were fortunate to come in here and win."

on winning at UNI so often
"It's hard to explain because our teams are always so evenly matched. If I knew what it was, we'd get it in some of our other games."

"UNI is a team that's won a lot of games and we knew they would make a run. They increased their energy in the first few minutes of the second half and popped us. But we hit a few shots and got our flow back."
