Box Score

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Sophomore forward Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team to a 79-61 win over Evansville Wednesday night at the UNI-Dome.

Stout hit on 7-of-11 shots from the field and 8-of-11 from the free throw line for the night, while connecting 2-of-3 from three-point range and blocking two shots. Fellow frontline player Eric Coleman (Maplewood, Minn.) added 12 points, and senior point guard Chris Foster (Ironton, Mo.) came off the bench to also score 12.

UNI's inside play accounted for the first 19 Panther points of the game, and it wasn't until Erik Crawford (Oakdale, Minn.) hit a short jumper with 9:46 left in the first half that a UNI perimeter player scored. The Panthers led 39-28 at halftime.

The Panthers continued to keep the pressure on the Aces in the second half, opening with an 8-2 run to open a 47-30 lead with 17:42 left in the game. Evansville would never get closer than 11 points the rest of the way as UNI improved its home record to 9-2 on the season.

UNI broke out of its recent shooting slump, connecting on 55.8 percent of its shots on the evening, including 61.9 percent (13-for-21) in the first half. UNI's primary frontcourt players of Stout, Coleman and Jon Godfread (Grand Forks, N.D.) were a combined 14-for-23 from the floor in the game. Crawford and Ben Jacobson (Sioux City, Iowa) were each held to single digits in scoring with eight and seven points, respectively, but combined for 12 assists and six steals.

Evansville connected on just 37.5 percent of its shots for the game, including just 9-of-27 on three-pointers. Lucious Wagner led the Purple Aces with 15 points.

With the win, UNI improves to 15-7 overall, 6-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Evansville falls to 10-10, 4-8 in conference play. The Panthers next game is this Saturday (Feb. 5) when they host Southern Illinois. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
