UNI improved to 23-16-2 in the all-time series against South Dakota State. The win snapped a modest two-game win streak for the Jackrabbits, but both of those victories occurred in 1978 and 1979.
UNI sophomore Corey Lewis rushed for a career-high 196 yards on only
16 carries (12.2 avg). Lewis also scored two touchdowns (12, 2) in the UNI victory.
It was the highest rushing output from the Panthers since Oct. 23, 2004, when UNI racked up 404 rushing yards against Western Illinois.
UNI senior Joe Lobdell moved from starting right tackle to tight end in the contest. Lobdell wore No. 88 during the game rather than the No.
70. Lobdell caught his first collegiate pass in the first quarter on a four-yard toss from Eric Sanders.
UNI senior kicker Brian Wingert continued his perfect season by drilling both field goals (43, 35) and all three extra points. Wingert is 7-for-7 in field goals and 11-for-11 on extra points this season.
Wingert has also made 17 straight field goals dating back to last season. Wingert also turned all six kickoffs against the Jackrabbits into touchbacks.
Senior wide receiver James Lindgren caught a touchdown pass in his third straight game with an 18-yarder in the third quarter. Lindgren has caught nine passes for 100 yards this season and three have gone for touchdowns.
UNI junior quarterback Eric Sanders had his streak of 135 straight passes without an interception snapped in the contest when SDSU's Justin Kubesh picked him off in the second quarter. SDSU's Brock Gentile tallied another interception later in the second quarter that led to SDSU's field goal from Parker Douglass that put the Jacks on top, 17-3.
The UNI defense pitched a shutout in the second half after trailing
17-3 at the half. UNI limited SDSU to only 100 yards of total offense in the second half.
