UNI's Eric Sanders moved into fifth place all-time on the UNI touchdown passes list. Sanders has passed for 41 touchdowns in his UNI career. Next up on the list at No. 4 Steve Sandon, who tossed 48 touchdowns from 1978-81. Sanders moved into seventh place on the all-time passing yards list with 4,642. Sanders moved past his offensive coordinator Bill Salmon, who passed for 4,435 yards from 1972-75. Sanders also moved into a tie for ninth place on the all-time passing attempts list with 518. Sanders is tied with current Missouri State head coach Terry Allen, who set his mark of 518 attempts from 1975-78. Brian Wingert extended his consecutive field goals made streak to 15 in a row as he drilled field goals from 33, 56 and 35 yards. The 56-yard was also a career-long three-pointer for the senior from Cedar Falls. UNI's longest field goal of all-time came off the foot of MacKenzie Hoambrecker, who drilled a 59-yarder in 2002 vs. Missouri State. Wingert has scored 265 career points and is only 36 points away from becoming the school's all-time scoring leader. Sophomore running back Corey Lewis broke the 100+ rushing mark for the second straight week with a 114-yard effort against UND. Corey rushed 19 times and scored on a 9-yard run at the 4:53 mark of the fourth quarter. Sophomore Johnny Gray recorded his first career 100+ receiving yards game with six catches for 103 yards. Gray nabbed a 20-yard scoring pass from Sanders at the 1:27 mark of the fourth quarter to put UNI on top, 31-28. Senior Matt Tharp recorded the only fumble recovery of the game, when he fell on a UND miscue in the first quarter. It was the only turnover of the game as neither squad tallied an interception.
UNI's home winning streak was snapped at 10 games. UNI's last loss before tonight came in 2004 when the Panthers dropped a 17-10 game to Western Kentucky. UNI is now 150-39-1 in games played in the UNI-Dome. UNI's last loss to a Division II opponent came in the 1989 season when Minnesota State (Mankato) scored a 22-14 season-opening win in head coach Terry's Allen opening game as the head coach of the Panthers. However, UNI responded with a 10-18 win the following week at Kansas State. UNI finished the 1989 season with an 8-3 record. |
