UNI's Ruffin to Play in Saturday's East-West Shrine Game
ORLANDO, Fla.--University of Northern Iowa defensive end James Ruffin will play in the 85th annual East-West Shrine Game in the Florida Citrus Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 23. Ruffin will suit for the West squad. Ruffin becomes the third UNI Panther football player to be selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game through the years. The two previous players (Brad Meester in 2000 and Chad Setterstrom in 2002) each went on to play in the National Football League. The game will be televised at 2 p.m. (Central) on ESPN2. Ruffin, who was a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award, led the Missouri Valley Football Conference in sacks and ranked No. 9 in the nation (0.95 sacks/game). Ruffin was also named to the 2009 Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision All-American team. The 6-foot-4 senior from Burnsville, Minn., earned third-team All-America accolades. Other Missouri Valley Football Conference players in the East-West Shrine Game include Western Illinois cornerback Patrick Stoudamire and NDSU running back Pat Paschall.
