Men's Golf in 12th After First Day of Tiger IntercollegiateApril 13, 2009

The University of Northern Iowa men’s golf team stands in 12th place after the first day of the UMB-Mizzou Tiger Intercollegiate. The tournament is being held at The Club at Old Hawthorne, a par 72 course of 7,221 yards.
UNI shot a 310 in the morning round and 307 in the afternoon to finish with a 36-hole total of 617. The Panthers are just four shots out of a tie for 10th place. Kansas State is the leader at the end of the first day with a 594 two-round total.
UNI’s Troy Hoffman and Kyle Bermel are UNI’s top individuals after the first day, tying for 31st place with a 152. Hoffman fired an even-par 72 in the second round, one of only six players to shoot par or better in the second 18 holes of the day. The Panthers’ Tyler Johnson is one shot behind Hoffman and Bermel, after shooting a 153. Kelly Kraft of SMU and Mitchell Gregson of Kansas State are the co-leaders heading into tomorrow’s action, having each posted seven-under totals of 137.
The tournament’s final 18 holes will be played tomorrow.
