The University of Northern Iowa men’s golf team fired the second-best team round on the final day of action to finish in fourth place overall at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Kansas City, Mo. UNI shot 297 for the third round to jump four spots in the team standings from their eighth place position after day one. The Panthers were one of only two teams to shoot sub-300 for the final round.

UNI posted descending rounds of 309-301-297 to finish at 907. Central Arkansas won the team title with a 292-290-298--880 to finish five strokes ahead of runner-up Nebraska. UNI’s fourth place finish out of 13 teams at Blue Hills Country Club marks their best team result of the 2009 fall season.

Freshman Yarri Bryn shot a final round 74 to take fifth place in the individual race. Bryn shot 69-76-74--219 for the tournament. His fifth place finish is his best in his young college career and it is the highest finish for a Panther individual this season. Bryn’s 69 in the first round was also the low round for a Panther individual this season.

Senior Troy Hoffman led the charge for UNI on the final day, firing a 72 and setting a new season-low round for himself. Hoffman finished in 22^nd place in the individual standings at 228. Kyle Bermel finished at 230, Tyler Johnson completed play at 231, and Matt Sargent rounded out the Panthers’ competitors with a 234.

Dustin Garza of Wichita State posted a 54-hole total of 211 to take medalist honors.

The Bill Ross Intercollegiate was UNI’s final event scheduled for the 2009 fall season.
