Sept. 6-7 -- 40th Annual Falcon Invitational
Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Eisenhower Golf Club (Blue Course)

The University of Northern Iowa men's golf team will get its fall season underway this weekend, when it travels to the Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.  Two rounds will be played on Saturday, with the final 18 holes on Sunday.  UNI will be one of 17 teams participating in the 40th annual tournament.

TEEING OFF

• This is the first of four fall tournaments for the Panthers, who will also play in Lawrence, Kan.; Chicago, Ill.; and Normal, Ill. this fall.

• Head coach John Bermel, starting his 14th season as UNI's head men's golf coach, welcomes back seven letterwinners from last years team -- Kyle Bermel, Blake Hibben, Troy Hoffman, Tyler Johnson, Mason Linn, Eric Sipple and Andy Wass.

• Bermel also welcomes four newcomers in freshmen Travis England, Barry Firman, Nick McDermott and Owen Teeling.  Four other players -- Jeff Burkgren, Brent Quade, Matt Sargent and Aaron Strike -- will be redshirt freshmen for the Panthers this season.

• Of the returning players, Blake Hibben, Troy Hoffman and Kyle Bermel saw the most action a year ago.  Hibben started all eight tournaments in 2007-08, and posted a 74.9 stroke average last year, including shooting a season-best 65 at the Agua-Caliente Invitational.  Hoffman played in seven tournaments, with a 76.0 stroke average, and a low round of 66 on two occasions.  Bermel also appeared in seven tournaments, recording a 76.2 stroke average, with a low of 67 at the Arkansas State Indian Classic.

• UNI finished 10th in the Falcon Invitational a year ago.  Jordan Weber tied for fourth individually to be UNI's top finisher.  Hoffman shot 76-78-74--227 for 59th place, Hibben shot 77-73-79-229 for 67th position, and Tyler Johnson shot 74-83-77--234 for 87th place.
