This Week in Panther Men's Golf

Oct. 12-13 -- D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate

Normal, Ill. -- Weibring Golf Club (Par 70 -- 6,730 yards)

 

The University of Northern Iowa men’s golf team wraps up its fall season by competing at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, hosted by Illinois State University.  There will be 36 holes played on Sunday (Oct. 12) with the final round played Monday (Oct. 13).

 

TEEING OFF

• A total of 14 teams will be competing this weekend at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate.  In addition to UNI and host Illinois State, other teams participating are Bradley, Creighton, Eastern Illinois, Illinois, Illinois Central, Lewis, Lindenwood, Loyola, Missouri State, Oakland, Southern Illinois, and SIU-Edwardsville.

• Illinois is the defending champion, after shooting a 290-275-272--837 three-round total last year.  Chris DeForest of the Fighting Illini was the 2007 medalist after shooting 73-73-63--209.

• UNI is coming off its best tournament showing of the fall, Sept. 21-22 at the John Dallio Memorial in Lemont, Ill.  The Panthers placed seventh as a team, shooting 297-289-302--888.

• Individually, junior Tyler Johnson tied for 13th at the John Dallio, with a 73-70-75--218 score.  Fellow junior Troy Hoffman tied for 26th with a 72-74-77--223 total, and sophomore Andy Wass tied for 32nd after carding 76-72-76--224.

• Johnson leads UNI in stroke average this season, with a 72.7.  Hoffman is the only Panther to play in all three tournaments during the fall and is second with a 75.1 average.
