Cedar Falls - The UNI men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Adidas Classic at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln this afternoon. The men recorded four first-place victories, while the women scored a first-place finish in their relay. Other teams competing in the event were Drake, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Wichita State and Division II Lincold (Mo.).

Top competitors on the men's side included senior Dirk Homewood (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) who raced to a first-place finish in the 400 meter dash (47.72), clocking in just before senior teammate Ryan Kedley (Lowden, Iowa/North Cedar) who placed second at 47.84. Homewood also enjoyed a first-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.56. Sophomore Kyle Smith (Toronto, Canada/Birchmount Park) placed second in the 800 meter run (1:53.72) and teammate Nick Mass reached the finish mark for third place at 1:55.21 in the event. The UNI 4x400 meter relay team 'A' scored a first-place finish, clocking in 3:13.25. In the men's weight throw, senior Derrick Benner earned yet another first-place victory for the Panthers, throwing for 18.44m.
 

 

On the women's side, junior Randi Burns (Strawberry Point, Iowa/Starmount) placed ninth in the 1 mile run with her time of 5:13.91. Junior Krystle Cordes (Dike, Iowa/Dike-New Hartford) raced to a second-place finish in the 600 yard run with her finals time of 1:24.54. In the 200 meter dash, freshman Meredith Kosmacek placed third (25.06) with freshman Liz Bradfield (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) closely behind in fourth place with her time of 25.38. The Panther women also earned a first place finish in their 4x400 meter realy, with team 'A' clocking in at 3:50.81, and junior Ivana Barsic (Zabresic, Croatia) placed second in the weight throw, throwing for 17.44m.

The Panthers are back in action Friday (Jan. 28th) hosting the UNI Invitational all day in the UNI-Dome. The Invitational is a two-day event, concluding on Saturday (Jan. 29th).
