Eichmeier Earns All-America honors in Long Jump
June 10, 2005 Sacramento, Calif. - University of Northern Iowa junior Cody Eichmeier (Ackley, Iowa) earned All-America honors in the long jump tonight at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Eichmeier finished seventh overall, posting a mark of 24-7. Entering tonight's finals in eighth place, he fouled on his first attempt before recording his best mark of the competition to move up one spot. Eichmeier was also an All-American in the long jump at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held earlier this year, finishing eighth at that meet. Also competing tonight was UNI's 4x400 relay team of Ryan Kedley (Lowden, Iowa), Eichmeier, Terrance Reid (Davenport, Iowa) and Dirk Homewood (Cedar Falls, Iowa). The Panthers finished third in their heat in a school-record time of 3:04.55, advancing to Saturday night's final on time. The 4x400 finals will be held June 11 at 8:35 p.m. Tomorrow (June 10), sophomore Jarno Kivioja (Porvoo, Finland) will be one of 13 athletes in the finals of the pole vault, while fellow sophomore Yuriy Litvinski (Sliven, Bulgaria) competes in the preliminaries of the triple jump.
