Cedar Falls, Iowa - Dennis Hammel (Davenport, Iowa/Central) has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Northern Iowa and compete for the Panthers, director of running programs Chris Bucknam announced today.

Hammel finished third in the 110 high hurdles at the 2004 Iowa high school state track meet, and is currently ranked among the state leaders in both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles.

"We're excited to have Dennis become a Panther next fall," said UNI assistant coach Travis Geopfert. "We think he can carry on the long tradition of excellence that UNI has had, particularly in the hurdles and the decathlon."
