Cedar Falls, Iowa - Whitney Johnson (Adel, Iowa/ADM) and Tyler Mulder (Orange City, Iowa/Unity Christian) have each signed national letters of intent to join the University of Northern Iowa track and field teams, head coach Chris Bucknam announced today.

Johnson is a three-time all-state honoree in cross country, finishing in the top 10 at the state meet each of the past three years. She was named Elite All-State this year after posting one of the top 10 times in the state regardless of school size classification.

As a sophomore, she was state champion in the 1500 meters and finished fourth in the 3000 meters, while as a junior, she finished second at state in the 800 meters and was fourth in the 1500. She also anchored her school's state distance medley relay team to a sixth-place finish. Johnson will run at this week's Drake Relays in the 800 meters, where she currently holds the seventh-fastest time in the state.

Mulder finished fourth at the state meet in the 800 meters as a sophomore, and bettered that with a second-place showing in the 800 as a junior. He also finished third in the 400 meters, and anchored his school's 4x400 meter relay to a fourth-place finish his junior season.
