Cedar Falls - This week in Panther Track and Field:

The UNI track and field teams host the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships Friday (May 13th) through Sunday (may 15th) at the Mark Messersmith Outdoor Track Complex. Results will be broadcasted live at www.unipanthers.com, and complete results will be available after each day's events.

Championships Schedule:

Friday: Multi-events begin at 10:30 a.m., field events begin at 1 p.m. and running events begin at 7 p.m.

Saturday: Multi-events begin at 9 a.m., field events begin at 2 p.m. and running events begin at 3:30 p.m.

Sunday: Field events begin at 11 a.m. and running events begin at 1 p.m.

Dirk Homewood Breaks School Record:

The Panthers returned from competing in the Wisconsin Twilight this past Saturday (May 7th) with five first-place finishes and a school record. Senior Dirk Homewood set a new record in the 200 meter dash with a regional-qualifying time of 20.78. The record was formerly set at 20.87 by Dedric Ward.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of junior Jamie Goodwin, senior Ryan Kedley, Homewood and junior Patrick Hunter earned second place with a regional-qualifying time of 40.41. In the field events, sophomore Jarno Kivioja earned first place in the pole vault, clearing 16-4 3/4.

On the women's side, sophomore Kara Yahn earned a first-place victory by running a time of 1:02.39 in the 400 meter hurdles, and senior Kayleen Popp took first place in the pole vault, clearing 11-11 3/4.
 

 

The women's relay teams proved to be a double-threat, earning first place finishes in both the 4x100 and 4x400. The 4x100 team of freshman Liz Bradfield, sophomore Pam Kyeremateng, freshman Blair Runde and freshman Meredith Kosmacek earned a first-place finish with a season-best time of 46.92. The winning 4x400 meter relay team consisted of Bradfield, sophomore Lynnette Wilson, freshman Jamie Hutchinson and freshman Lauren Carruthers and finished with a time of 3:46.20.
