Carson, Calif. - Several athletes with University of Northern Iowa ties have been in competition this weekend at the United States Outdoor Track and Field championships.

Dirk Homewood, who completed his UNI eligibility earlier this month at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships, qualified for tomorrow's finals in the 400 meters with a time of 45.99. Homewood was one of nine runners to make it to Saturday's finals.

Panthers assistant track and field coach Travis Geopfert competed in the decathlon Thursday and Friday, finishing eighth overall with 7473 points.

UNI rising sophomore Terrance Reid advanced to tomorrow's finals in the junior men's 400 meter race. His time of 47.39 was the fifth fastest in today's preliminaries.

In the first round of the 400 meter hurdles, former Panther All-American Joey Woody finished second in his heat in a time of 49.90. He qualified for Saturday's semifinals with the seventh-fastest time of the 18 athletes to move on.

Former UNI All-American Jacob Pauli competed in the pole vault on Thursday, but failed to clear a height.
