Waltham, Mass. - University of Northern Iowa senior sprinter Dirk Homewood (Cedar Falls, Iowa) has been named a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. This is the third straight year Homewood has earned national academic honors, with a first-team selection in 2003 and second-team mention in 2004.

He becomes just the second UNI student-athlete to be named Academic All-American three times, joining volleyball's Mary Bernhardt (1985-87).

Homewood, who received his bachelor's degree math education major at UNI in May, recently completed his stellar Panther track and field career by earning All-America honors in the 4x400 meter relay at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In all, he was a four-time All-American on the track for UNI. This past weekend, he competed in the finals of the 400 meter dash at the USA Outdoor National Track and Field Championships in Carson, Calif.
