Cedar Falls, Iowa -

University of Northern Iowa assistant track and field coach Travis Geopfert has qualified to compete for the United States in a decathlon dual meet with Germany July 23-24 in Stuttgart, Germany.

Geopfert recently finished eighth at the 2005 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 23-26 in Carson, Calif.  This was his highest place finish in five appearances at the event.

"I am very pleased with the eighth-place finish.  My goal was to finish in the top 10," Geopfert said. "I did not have a great score because of adverse conditions, but when competing at the U.S. Championships it's all about how you place. Coming back to Cedar Falls with a top ten finish is very rewarding.  I'm very excited about qualifying for the Germany meet.  Any time you get an opportunity to compete for the United States it is something very special."

Geopfert will make his second trip to Germany for the dual meet.  He placed third at the meet in 2003, helping the U.S. sweep the top three place finishes.  He is joined by six other great athletes:

Stephen Harris - Former NCAA National Champion from Tennessee

Stephen Moore - Former NCAA Div. II National Champion from Abilene Christian

Mustafa Abdur-Rahim - NCAA runner-up from Dartmouth

Chris Boyles - Former NCAA Div. III National Champion from Pennsylvania

Ryan Harlan - Former NCAA National Champion from Rice

Donovan Kilmartin - Indoor NCAA heptathlon National Champion, currently at Texas
