Panthers Top Appalachian State, Fall to Chattanooga in Close Dual

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team posted a 30-9 win over Appalachian State before falling 16-15 to host Chattanooga Saturday afternoon.
vs. Appalachian State The Panthers won seven of the ten dual matches against the Mountaineers, collecting bonus points in three matches as well as earning a fall at 149 pounds.
After falling behind 3-0, UNI rattled off six straight wins, including a technical falls from Caleb Flores (125 lbs) and Tyson Reiner (157 lbs.), major decisions from Joey Lazor (133 lbs.) and Trent Washington (149 lbs.) and a fall from Charlie Ettelson (141 lbs.).

vs. Chattanooga
After falling behind 9-0 after the first three matches, the Panthers got back-to-back wins from Washington and Reiner to pull with 9-6 at the halfway point.
The Mocs came out with a 3-1 win at 165 pounds to extend their lead back to six, but Jarion Beets (175 lbs.) earned a 3-1 decision over Jake Young to cut the Moc lead to three with three matches remaining.
The Mocs then earned a major decision win over Scott Hazen at 184 pounds to put them back up seven.
UNI won the final two matches of the dual, but came up just short, falling 16-15.
