The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team had 12 members in action Saturday at the 45th annual Midlands wrestling championship in Evanston, Ill.
Junior Andrew Anderson led the way as he advanced to the 197-pound quarterfinals before falling to No. 1 seed Josh Glenn, 8-1. Anderson came into the tournament as the No. 8 seed and will look to place in the top six at Midlands for the third straight year.
Junior Moza Fay will also look to place in the top six on Sunday. Fay came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the 165-pound bracket. Fay won his first two matches, which included a 16-3 major decision over Missouri's Patrick Wright and a fall at the 3:23 mark against Northern Illinois' Scott Wallace. However, Fay dropped a high-scoring affair to Purdue's Jason Martin, 16-13.
Senior Alex Dolly put up a strong effort on Saturday as well and will look to place on Sunday. Dolly entered the 174-pound bracket as the No. 9 seed. Dolly knocked off Luther's A.J. Gregg in the first round before dropping 4-1 decision to No. 8-seeded Lloyd Rogers of Chattanooga.
At the conclusion of session I earlier in the day, UNI was in ninth place in the team standings with 26.0 team points.
The Midlands will continue on Sunday.
